PreZero Arena is a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 30,150 and the home of TSG Hoffenheim. In 2023, it became the first Bundesliga stadium to receive bronze certification for zero-waste management from TÜV SÜD. In December 2025, Hoffenheim reached another milestone in its “Road to Zero Waste” strategy, setting new standards in waste and resource management in the Bundesliga. Both the PreZero Arena and the club’s headquarters and training center in Zuzenhausen were awarded silver certification under DIN SPEC 91436 by TÜV SÜD. With a recycling rate of over 91%, Hoffenheim strengthened its position as a sustainability leader. The club is currently the first and so far only club in Europe with this certification for both its stadium and operational facilities. ♻️⚽
Since the PreZero Arena first received bronze certification in 2023, TSG Hoffenheim has systematically improved its recycling efforts. Within a year, the recycling rate was significantly increased from 87 percent to 90 percent, and the certification was extended to additional locations. With the renewed achievement of silver status, the club continues to play a pioneering role. This certification underscores TSG's goal of remaining a leader in this field in the coming years.
In December 2025, the reusable system for food bowls with the motto "Zero Waste. Full Circle." was successfully launched at the home game of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The PreZero Arena became the first stadium in Germany to introduce a comprehensive reusable system, including for food containers. Approximately 80,000 single-use containers, and thus about 700 kilograms of residual waste, will be saved per Bundesliga season following the successful “Zero Waste Certification”. The reusable food container system sets new standards in the Bundesliga and is an active contribution to avoiding unnecessary waste. TSG is an ecological frontrunner in the field of reusable packaging.
Process innovation
Costs are shared among several parties and are not communicated externally.
No funding outside of the club's direct partnerships.
Since this development took place within a partnership, one can speak of direct amortization from this perspective. Achieving this economically through the project alone is more difficult.
1) Avoidance of residual waste
2) Awareness in the stadium and Positioning of TSG together with partners, especially PreZero
3) Benchmark and inspiration for implementation elsewhere
1) Implementation effort
2) Implementation costs
3) Handling of failed attempts
